چکیده

Phasic right atrial and ventricular pressures and heart sounds were simultaneously recorded from dogs with normal and ectopic ventricular contractions. Heart sounds and electrocardiograms were recorded from humans. The first heart sound is significantly delayed in the absence of atrial systole. The time between onset of the ventricular pressure rise due to ventricular contraction and the beginning of the first heart sound is minimal at normal As-Vs intervals. These findings support the view that normally the A-V valves are closed or nearly closed before ventricular systole. In ectopic ventricular beats the A-V valves are closed from an open position by ventricular contraction.

Detection and Classification of Heart Premature Contractions via α-Level Binary Neyman-Pearson Radius Test: A Comparative Study

The aim of this study is to introduce a new methodology for isolation of ectopic rhythms of ambulatory electrocardiogram (ECG) holter data via appropriate statistical analyses imposing reasonable computational burden. First, the events of the ECG signal are detected and delineated using a robust wavelet-based algorithm. Then, using Binary Neyman-Pearson Radius test, an appropriate classifie...

Splitting of second heart sound in ventricular ectopic beats.

Doubt has frequently been expressed as to whether electrical asynchrony of the ventricles (e.g. right or left bundle-branch block, right or left ventricular ectopics) causes an equivalent mechanical counterpart. Samet et al. (1959b), using intraventricular pressure records, found evidence of mechanical asynchrony in only 28 per cent of ventricular extrasystoles. The two components of the second...

The first heart sound in left bundle branch block: an echophonocardiographic study.

To examine the nature of the first heart sound in left bundle branch block (LBBB), 26 patients with LBBB were studied using echophonocardiography. Apexcardiograms and systolic time intervals were also obtained from these patients and the results were compared with 20 normal subjects. Mitral closure preceded tricuspid closure by 0.02-0.04 second in 19 of the 20 normal subjects. In contrast, in s...

Heart Carcinoid Disease with Patent Foramen Ovale Treated by Mini Sternotomy

This case report was an attempt to present the importance of diagnostic echocardiography and closure of a patent foramen ovale in carcinoid heart disease. Herein, we present a case of a 48-year-old woman with a carcinoid metastasis presenting with tricuspid regurgitation, pulmonic stenosis, patent foramen ovale, and borderline left ventricular ejection fraction on an echocardiogram. Surgical in...

Automatic classification of normal and abnormal cardiac sounds by combining features based on wavelet transform and capstral coefficients extracted from PCG signals (Research Article)

Cardiac sounds are produced by the mechanical activities of the heart and provide useful information about the function of the heart valves. Due to the transient and unstable nature of the heart's sound and the limitation of the human hearing system, it is difficult to categorize heart sound signals based on what is heard from a stethoscope. Therefore, providing an automated algorithm for prima...
